SOLAR WATER HEATERS

Modern technology.A warmer, cleaner tomorrow.

Still warmed in copper. Now by the sun.

For generations, Indian homes warmed bathing water in copper vessels over a fire. In a Rudhra Solar Flat Plate Collector (FPC), your water is still heated in copper: it flows through copper header and riser tubes, and the sun takes the place of the fire. The fins that gather the heat may be copper or aluminium; the water itself is heated inside the copper tubes.

Heated water is stored in an insulated tank for domestic, commercial and institutional hot-water applications.

FLAT PLATE COLLECTOR

Sunlight in. Hot water out.

Sunlight passes through toughened glass onto a black chrome-coated absorber. Its fins pass the heat to the copper riser tubes, where your water is heated, and rockwool insulation in an aluminium box keeps the heat in.

  1. 1

    Collect

Sunlight falls on the collector's dark absorber plate and heats it.

  2. 2

    Transfer

Water in the collector's tubes carries that heat away from the plate.

  3. 3

    Store

The heated water moves into an insulated storage tank.

  4. 4

    Top up

On cloudy days a backup heater or heat pump makes up the difference.
